Our Beliefs

Vision Statement

We, the members of Second Baptist Church, corporately and individually, commit to fulfill the Great Commission by sharing the love of Jesus Christ through evangelism, equipping the members in discipleship, ministering to those in need, growing closer to each other in fellowship, and magnifying God through worship.

Basic Beliefs

God:

We believe there is one God, the Creator of all that exists (Gen.1:1; Deut.6:4).  He is Sovereign over all of His creation and is actively involved in history and people to bring the world to the destiny He planned for it from the beginning.  Although God is One, He has made Himself known as three eternal Persons: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:9; Eph. 1:17).

Jesus:

We believe Jesus Christ is God, the Son, having humbled himself to become a man and to live as an example for all to follow. We believe Jesus died on the cross, rose from the tomb on the third day, and is alive today.  Jesus is the only way to salvation (John 14:6).

Holy Spirit:

We believe the Holy Spirit is God in His nearness and power, anywhere and anytime, the very divine presence incarnated in Jesus Christ and now present in His people (John 14:16-17; Rom. 8:9,11;1Cor.3:16).  We believe that all born-again believers have the presence of the Holy Spirit within them (Rom.8:9).  Every believer has been endowed with some spiritual gift through which the Holy Spirit works (1 Cor.12:7-11).

Salvation:

We believe that all people are sinners and are not able to provide their own salvation (Rom. 3:23;6:23).  We believe that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ as we confess our sins and place our faith in Jesus as Savior.  Salvation is given by God's grace, through our faith in Jesus (Eph. 2:8-9).

The Bible:

We believe the Bible is the divinely inspired Word of God.  Although it was penned by men, they wrote under the guidance of God so that what we have can be trusted as our authority for doctrine and for life (2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Heb. 4:12).
