Narrow Gate—Eugene Parker

As inspiring as Texas itself, Narrow Gate is a fictional novel about good triumphing over evil with man overcoming many obstacles. The setting is San Antonio and the murder-mystery intrigue crisscrosses Texas into the Gulf of Mexico and leads to offshore banking. The plot incorporates all the stereotypical Texas elements of money, ranching and greed. In addition, woven into the narrative is a compelling overview of the petroleum industry covering everything from prospect to pipeline.

The story hatches a murder-mystery stretching across a one year period. A patriarch’s death leaves a vast estate up for grabs between a widow and her stepson. Unknown to them, an illegitimate son has a birthright claim to the estate as well. The widow’s contrived death casts a shadow over the others. Their ensuing struggles against law enforcement, greed, and death characterize two brothers for what each really holds dear. A strong female character adds to the volatile mix.

Interspersed within the story is the timeless message of salvation by grace, through faith. Biblical Scriptures are reconciled with science.

The ending finds the brothers bruised and battered yet both better for having experienced those situations that temper with fire.

Amethyst Heart—Penelope Stokes

“You’re ninety-three, Mother. I think it’s time for you to move out of this drafty old house…” “It’s my home, Conrad.” Amethyst felt a tightening in her throat a hot flush of anger surging up from her belly. “I was born here, and I will die here.”

How and when, she wonders, had she lost her only son? And has she lost her great granddaughter in the bargain? Once she, the family matriarch, is gone—who will be left to carry on. Who will inhabit the house where generations of Nobles have lived and loved, wear the amethyst heart that generations of Noble women have worn, pass on the family stories to new generations?

Little Am giggled, and for the first time all day, she sounded like what she was—a teenage girl on the verge of young womanhood. A surge of pleasure and love rose up in Amethyst’s heart. This was her great granddaughter, her namesake. Maybe there was hope yet…

“Didn’t Conrad ever tell you about the history of this house?” He never told me anything except to turn the music down.” Amethyst laughed. “All right then.” She took a deep breath and settled back into her Chair. “It all began right here, in this very room almost exactly a hundred and forty years ago…”

And so

Miss Amethyst, one last time, tells the story of Noble House: a tale of joy and pain, hope and sorrow—and one family’s legacy of sincerity, purity, and nobility.” A legacy she can only pray that her great granddaughter will have the courage to carry on.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World—Joanna Weaver

The life of a woman today isn't really all that different from that of Mary and Martha in the New Testament. Like Mary, you long to sit at the Lord's feet...but the daily demands of a busy world just won't leave you alone. Like Martha, you love Jesus and really want to serve him...yet you struggle with weariness, resentment, and feelings of inadequacy.

Then came Jesus into the midst of your busy life to extend the same invitation he issued long ago to the two sisters from Bethany. Tenderly, he invites you to choose “the better part”— a joyful life of intimacy with him that flows naturally into loving service.

With her fresh approach to the familiar Bible story, Joanna Weaver shows how all of us——Marys and Marthas alike——can draw closer to our Lord: deepening our devotion, strengthening our service, and doing both with less stress and greater joy.

Pictures Your Heart Remembers--John Trent

In Pictures Your Heart Remembers, family expert Dr. John Trent shows how “pictures” of the good and bad things in our lives not only find their way into our hearts but also affect how we view ourselves, how we treat others, and even how we relate to God These pictures, writes Trent, affect the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we perceive the world.”

In this most personal book, Trent draws on pictures from his own painful past to show how acts of kindness or cruelty—a parent’s smile or a teacher’s ridicule—are all wrapped up in memories that carry the power to bless or curse us. Drawing on pictures full of promise in God’s Word, Trent shows that we have a choice in how we react to the negative events we’ve experienced in the past. We also have a choice every day to leave positive pictures in the lives of those we meet…just as Jesus did.

Over a million homes have been deeply impacted by Dr. Trent’s powerful message of the blessing. This book, previously released as Choosing to Live the Blessing, speaks to the people who may not have seen consistent love, acceptance, or warmth in their past and gives them hope and help in refraining those negative events into lifelong positives.

Filled with genuine warmth and vulnerability, Pictures Your Heart Remembers will touch readers’ hearts and challenge them to leave pictures of blessing today.

Deliver Us From Evil—Ravi Zacharias

“Evil has taken on forms that shock the world.” With clarity and insight, Ravi Zacharias shows how many of today’s most popular ideas, seemingly innocent thoughts and beliefs, are vandalizing our culture. With inspiring persuasion and unshakable certainty, he shows why “neutrality on these issues is impossible” and why “even the so-called non-secular and religiously dominated cultures of the world had better pay due heed to the truths” he uncovers. Here you find the common ground of what threatens us all. And from that common ground the answers become clear and inescapable. Exposing the fraudulent innocence and insidious power of evil belief systems, Ravi Zacharias pointedly asks, “What is it we live for, and what, in that pursuit, are we doing to our own children? One look at the world we are giving to them spells horror.” It will not do to just condemn the evil. In apprehension and fear we examine our options and make a change.

Essentials of Prayer—E.M. Bounds

Do your prayers feel limp and lifeless? If praying has become a task, something healthy that you keep putting off—like switching to decaf—it may be that you’re missing a critical truth that could break you into a place of intimacy and power. Do more than dream about an effective prayer life!

E.M. Bounds will challenge you to reignite the spark in your prayer life. More importantly, he will teach you how to sustain a practice of power-packed, life-changing prayer.

APOLOGETICS

Refuting Compromise–Jonathan Sarfati PhD.

Many otherwise sound evangelical leaders, thinking that the only misleading doctrine is "Darwinism," are being seduced by the promise of "progressive creationism." Its most prominent voice, astronomer Dr. Hugh Ross, has convinced many that here is a biblically sound way to accommodate the "facts of science."

With brilliant clarity, Jonathan Sarfati, author of the Best-selling Refuting Evolution (1 & 2) has produced a comprehensive and biblically—based refutation of progressive creationism. He addresses such issues as:

*Death, bloodshed, and disease existed before Adam & Eve. True?

*Noah's flood was only a local event. Really?

*Man-like creatures existed before Adam and Eve, but had no spirit, and thus no salvation. Evidence?

*Six days of six ages? What does the biblical text actually say?
